Not many weeks ago Digital Disc Duplication USA quoted for a DVD replication project with standard packaging requirements. As per usual the quote provided was without any hidden extras and therefore included everything - Even shipping to customer! As you would expect, this potential client requested quotes from a few alternative companies as well.
On this occasion Digital Disc Duplication USA did not win the project however it turns out the client wishes otherwise. Just yesterday this same client contacted us totally unexpected and sent to us a copy of the final product received via the alternative company used. The project was simply a DVD-5 packaged into standard DVD case with sleeve and overwrap. Just holding the product you could tell the quality was poor. The case seemed soft and out of shape and this resulted in the overwrap seeming loose fit.
The client was most upset with the appearance because when put on retail shelf next to other similar products, the inferior quality instantly becomes apparent. But the real bombshell was when this client received the final invoice to complete the project (which had to be paid prior to shipping). While the initial quote seemed lower than that offered by Digital Disc Duplication USA, the extras to complete the project such as shipping finally made the cost higher than the quote from Digital Disc Duplication USA.
It turns out this DVD was actually manufactured overseas although the company contracted was based in the US. The client was not made aware of this initially and obviously not advised of the total cost of the project from the start!
